Family Booklets

Your Family Booklets include details of each Second Step® lesson your first-grader will be taught this year, plus fun activity pages and at-home tips to help the whole family support your child’s social-emotional growth.

Unit 1: Overcoming Challenges

Unit 1 includes important SEL lessons about paying attention, understanding that practicing and trying hard are how we get better at things, and how we can use positive words and phrases to keep ourselves motivated and encouraged.

Unit 2: Managing Emotions 

Unit 2 helps students recognize other people’s feelings and identify complicated emotions like worry and frustration, and shares tools for feeling calmer when they’re overwhelmed.

Unit 3: Empathy and Kindness

Unit 3 teaches the social-emotional benefits of kindness, and shares tools for using empathy to choose and offer appropriate kind acts in a variety of situations.

Unit 4: Solving Problems

Unit 4 teaches important SEL tools for resolving interpersonal conflicts, including not using blame words, ways to apologize, and actions we can take to make things better.
